What should an HVAC business spend on SEO?

Start with the work your website needs and the contribution from an extra completed job. Use the calculator below to see what a proposed monthly budget would need to achieve.

Illustrative defaults. Replace them with your figures. Contribution means revenue left after the direct costs of completing a job, before fixed overhead.

You need 3 extra completed jobs per month to cover this cost. Plan for approximately 8 qualified enquiries at your assumed completion rate.

Jobs = cost ÷ contribution, rounded up. Enquiries = rounded jobs ÷ completion rate, rounded up. This scenario does not predict traffic, lead volume or results. Figures stay in this calculator and are not submitted.

There is no single right budget for every contractor. A business with one service area and a working website has a different problem from a company launching several branches. Compare proposals by their scope, implementation responsibility and measurement before comparing the monthly fee.

Separate the initial repair work from ongoing growth

A setup can correct basic page titles, clarify services and prepare technical fixes. Ongoing SEO involves choosing priorities, implementing improvements, maintaining information and reviewing results. Ask who will publish the changes: an audit document sitting in an inbox cannot improve the live site.

RL Enterprise offers a $149 one-time Human + AI visibility basic setup for one site and location, covering up to ten pages with prepared fix files. Installation is separately scoped. This is a starting point, not a substitute for a continuing campaign.

Compare the monthly scope, not just the price

Our small-business SEO plans range from $250 to $500 per month, medium-business plans from $500 to $1,000, and larger-business plans from $1,000 to $3,000. These are our prices in USD, not a claimed industry average. The agreed proposal determines the work included.

At a smaller budget, concentrate on the highest-priority services and problems. A proposal promising unlimited articles, technical development and national coverage at a modest fixed fee needs a much closer look. Ask which pages will be improved first, how implementation is handled, and what happens when a developer is needed.

Use contribution per completed job to test the budget

In an illustrative example, an extra job produces $500 in revenue and leaves $200 after the direct costs of doing the work. A $500 monthly marketing cost needs three additional completed jobs to cover that cost when rounded up. At a 40% enquiry-to-completed-job rate, plan for eight additional qualified enquiries to support those three jobs.

This is a break-even scenario, not a traffic or revenue forecast. It excludes fixed overhead and assumes the business has capacity to perform the work. Use first-job contribution unless you have reliable evidence for repeat purchases. A repair call and an equipment replacement should not be assigned the same economics.

Ask how the agency will measure progress

Track non-branded search clicks to relevant pages, qualified enquiries, completed jobs and contribution. Record your starting point before work begins. A ranking report alone cannot tell you whether the campaign pays for itself.

Separate paid advertising costs, software subscriptions, website development and call handling from the SEO fee. Include them in your scenario when they are incremental costs of acquiring the same jobs. Review seasonal demand alongside monthly changes so a heatwave is not mistaken for a permanent marketing improvement.

Choose a first scope you can evaluate

Begin with the services you can deliver profitably in the locations you genuinely cover. Ask for the first month of work to be named explicitly: for example, fix indexability, improve a priority repair page and establish enquiry tracking.

Agree when to review the evidence and how to change direction. Search performance does not arrive on a guaranteed schedule. If pages receive impressions but few clicks, inspect the query and search-result message; if visits arrive without enquiries, inspect the offer, trust signals and contact process before ordering more articles.

Use our pricing page to compare available scopes, or start with the free website visibility checker. If search already brings enquiries that go unanswered, the missed-call calculator addresses that separate part of the problem.

    Frequently asked questions

Does paying more guarantee higher rankings?
No. More budget can fund more relevant work, but rankings depend on competition, the website and search systems. Evaluate delivery and qualified enquiries rather than a ranking guarantee.
Is the $149 setup a monthly subscription?
No. It is a one-time basic setup with prepared fix files for one site and location, up to ten pages. Installation and continuing SEO are separately scoped.
Does the calculator predict leads from SEO?
No. It calculates the additional jobs and enquiries needed to cover the cost you enter. It does not estimate search demand or the probability of achieving those results.
