Keep search clicks, sessions and estimates separate
Search Console reports Google search performance for your property. Your analytics system records the website activity it can observe. A third-party traffic tool models visits using its own data and methodology. These are different measurements, not interchangeable counters.
DataForSEO’s Google organic traffic estimate uses ranking and search-volume inputs. It is not a count of all visits. Similarweb’s total-visits metric covers a different scope and is also an estimate unless clearly identified otherwise. For your own business decisions, use your first-party records and document their gaps.
Define a qualified enquiry before counting one
For an HVAC business, a useful definition might be a reachable prospect requesting a supported service in the real coverage area. Mark spam, job applications, existing-customer support and duplicate contacts separately. Adjust that definition for your own operation.
Commercial services may need additional qualification, such as property type, contract scope or procurement timing. Keep open opportunities separate from completed contracts so a longer sales cycle does not make a useful campaign appear ineffective.
Measure successful actions, not button presses alone
A form-submit event should represent a successful accepted submission, not merely a click on Send. Test an error as well as a success. A call-button click indicates an intention to call; the phone system or sales record establishes whether the call connected and produced an enquiry.
Record the landing page and source where your systems and privacy choices allow it. Avoid placing personal contact details or the body of an enquiry in analytics events. Ask the person handling the lead to record its outcome in the job or customer system.
Review one consistent monthly scorecard
Use the same reporting period for non-branded search clicks, qualified organic enquiries, completed jobs and contribution after direct delivery costs. Keep the numerator and denominator aligned when calculating conversion rates. Do not divide all-channel enquiries by organic-only sessions.
Use longer periods when numbers are small. For seasonal trades, compare with the previous period and the comparable season where reliable history exists. Annotate website changes, advertising, weather-driven demand and tracking interruptions before drawing conclusions.
Let the weak step determine the next job
No impressions: check discovery, relevance and indexability. Impressions without relevant clicks: inspect queries and the search-result message. Relevant visits without enquiries: inspect clarity, proof and the contact journey. Qualified enquiries without jobs: review availability, response and the sales process.
This sequence helps avoid commissioning more content when the real issue is a broken form or unanswered phone. The free visibility checker helps investigate website signals, while the missed-call calculator estimates a separate operational opportunity using your inputs.
The short versionChoose the next improvement from the observed bottleneck, then measure it again.
